About Co-Amoxiclav

Co-amoxiclav (Augmentin) is amoxicillin combined with clavulanic acid, which protects the antibiotic from resistance. It has a higher rate of GI side effects (diarrhoea, nausea) than plain amoxicillin. Take with food to reduce GI effects.

Max adult dose 375mg or 625mg three times daily depending on indication

Co-Amoxiclav and Alcohol

🟡 USE WITH CAUTION

You can drink alcohol with co-amoxiclav (Augmentin) in small amounts — unlike metronidazole there is no dangerous reaction — but alcohol can worsen the nausea and diarrhoea this antibiotic commonly causes.
